| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Aug 19, 2006 Shared with Beerdrenched. Pours orange with a white head. Aroma has nutmeg, butterscotch and a honey-like sweetness. Starts off sour with nutmeg - slightly medicinal with the honey sweetness. This is a medium bodied beer that is very smooth with gentle carbonation (best thing about the beer). The finish has much of the same that was in the taste with more medicinal aspects. It gets more tolerable further down the glass, but still not something I’ll buy again. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 30, 2004 Hazy gold color with a fleeting head.
Aroma is malty with herbal notes that I can’t place.
The flavor is lightly sweet with a bit of bitterness in the finish. The heather is very much hidden and presents itself more as a complexity that defies description rather than being up front and obvious. Interesting beer that is not bad. radiomgb (2040), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 21, 2002 This one was weird. The aroma was one that sticks with you even days later. Very floral. The taste was different. Not a whole lot to say there. Pretty neutral and unoffending with a dry finish. patrick767 (2038), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 15, 2007 bottle - Pours murky light brown with dark yeast floaters. The nose is mild malt and herb (apparently heather). I personally didn’t detect any hops in the aroma or taste. The description does not mention them and if this is truly a several thousand year old recipe, then they aren’t there. That wouldn’t surprise me. Anyway, the malty flavor is poorly supported by a thin, watery body. Sweetness and low carbonation makes it slide down easily enough. Kudos to the brewer for keeping an ancient style alive, but I’m just not impressed. Indra (2036), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 5, 2002 Lightly flowery, yeasty, fruity, earthy aroma with a hint of honey-toasted malt. Hazy orange-copper color with a decent head and very fine effervescence. Heather really comes through on the flavor, where it combines with the estery yeast and lightly toasted, lightly sweet maltiness. Light to medium bodied with a slightly oily mouthfeel and a citrusy, herbal, dryish finish. It had been quite a while since the last time I had this ale. I missed it.. kook (2034), Perth, Western Australia, Australia
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 25, 2005 Bottle: Hazy light orange with a lasting white head. Strange aroma, quite floral, with some grassy notes too. Really refreshing flavour, sweet malts with herbs and a nice sour finish. I really like this. bitbucket (2034), Kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Sep 7, 2006 Bottled. Pours a hazy light amber with a thin white head. Floral aroma with some wood/peat, fruit and honey spice. The body is medium with light carbonation. The taste is sweet with fruit and bisquit augmented by the same tastes as the aroma. A bit of spice on the finish.
