Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Pours a pretty translucent copper amber with a medium white frothy head. The aroma is sweet, caramel, and herbs. The flavor is fairly sweet, not too much substance to it. An earthy herbal character, some caramel. Fairly light and easy to drink. A pleasant beer, definitely better than the Grozet.

Bottle sampled at my house with Stegosaurus. Pours hazy orange with a white head. Aroma of citrus, sweet malts, herbal. Flavor is smooth, carbonated, citrusy, malt, dry finish. The best Traditional i have sampled.

Pours hazy orange with a minimal white head. Aroma of citrus, sweet malts, floral and herbally notes. Flavor is smooth, carbonated, citrusy, malty, dry finish, decent brew, not a fan of this style, but this isn’t bad

An interesting story behind a very refreshing ale. Uncarbonated, unhopped, earthy tribute to a Scottish legend. I’ve never tasted (or smelled for that matter) Heather, but it makes an incredibly light and pleasing ale. Nice and dry at the end. I had it cask-conditioned and enjoyed its unique aroma and taste. I thought it smelled clover-like. Can’t wait to find it bottled.

Pours a light copper with a tiny eggshell head. Aroma of ginger, floral hops, sweet caramel malts--ginger is predominant. The taste follows the aroma into a slightly bitter finish. Nothing to write home about.

Expected much more from this highly acclaimed beer. Floral nose is interesting, but uneventful pour and lack of generosity in the flavor is a little disappointing. Nice sweetness in aftertaste but little else where it counts.

Poured from the bottle at The White Horse in Parsons Green, a light orange with no head. A spicey/fruity aroma with hints of oranges. The flavour is a lot like heather smells (funny enough), a little honeyish. A bit too carbonated unfortunately and a tanginess left in the mouth. A long lingering aftertaste though, and enjoyably different.

500 ml. Hazy, beautiful burnt orange with a two-finger cap that lasts well. Slight aroma of grassy honey and caramel, then later some peat. Flavor is oddly back and forth from earthy-spicy caramel apple to dryish floral herbs. The floral component shows up more in the aftertaste. Near-medium body is smooth, dryish, and a bit tingly. This unique brew is well-crafted.
