Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Pours a one finger white head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving some lace. Hazy amber color. Mellow sweet nose. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Flavor is sweet, doughy and mellow. Better flavor as it warms. $4.10 for a 500ml bottle from Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, Me.

Mid sized offwhite head, fine beaded with good retention. Hazy orange color. Fruity, berryish nose. Med/light body. Fruity, flowery flavors with a hint of malt in the background. Finish is dry, fruity. A pleasent enough brew.

Bottle. Pours gold with a white head. Huge floral aroma with some spices and lemony citrus. Floral notes also dominate the flavor, with lemony, and herbal notes. Pretty tasty. Certainly worth trying.

11.2 fl oz royal. Best before Oct 2007 notched on the label. Pour is hazed orange golden with a bunch of floaties, and a one inch light tan head. Aroma of malty, roasty earthiness - the moss peat as expected. Nice herbal floral notes. Really soft and inviting nose. Taste is the musty, earthy, peaty, slightly sweet floral of the nose. There is also a bit of butterscotch citrus sweetness present. Really layered flavors, nicely integrated. Palate is medium, drying, yet coats the mouth pleasantly. This really attacked the palate despite the lower abv. Interesting and enjoyable beer. I need to grab a fresher bottle and see what the age did to this.

From a 500 ml bottle this poured a light brown with an off-white head and light lacing Nose is as its name implies, heather. Medium mouthfeel. Flavor is floral and full of the heather notes. Dry finish. Interesting and quite drinkable brew.

Bottle: Nice appearance.....dark amber with an of white head. Aromas of caramel, but there’s some sort of salty aroma here I can’t quite place. Taste is malty, sweet, but afterwards, I can taste Harvey’s gravy. Very strange.

(Bottle) Pours hazy light amber. Spicy, floral and almost a bit bubblegum like aroma with tones of heather, mint and sweet gale. A bit earthy. Rather sweet and fruity with red apples up front but also some notes of sweet pears. Spicy and floral flavour with heather, mint and sweet gale. Quite malty and light sour. Abrupt finish. Light to medium mouthfeel and body.

NorCal tasting June ’07 - While this was a surprise beer, after a few sips it really started to get that.."Am I done with it yet" feeling. A really thin and watery beer, the nose was really flowery with a sour berry taste. It also had something that I just could’t place my finger on it, almost like a honey-like quality. Nothing worth looking at here in terms of pint sized drinking, because it’s just too damn boring. A half-pint, perhaps just because it’s pretty different.
