Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Bottle from Tbone, thanks! Orange color. Slightly earthy aroma with a hint of orange. Earthy grassy flavor with vennel. Just a bit thin. Hints of orange and honey. Unimpressive.

Bottle. Golden colour with a off-white head. Herbal, spicy, malty aroma and taste. Medium body and a sweet dry finish.

a sim rate: The aroma, at first sniff, was of Walkers Smokey Bacon crisps... maybe even Frazzles. I’m now convinced that it’s actually closer to Walkers Roast Chicken. Mes, even now, swears it is in fact Smokey Bacon. I’m not so sure. But as he has eaten more crisps than I will ever consume in my life (especially those of a meat persuasion), I’m going to take his word for it. Smokey Bacon Crisps! The flavour tastes much like rosemary to me (my favourite herb, might I add). It’s refreshing and its relatively-low alcohol content and complex flavour makes it a great last beer of the evening. The aftertaste is more rosemary (have I mentioned that I have no idea what heather is meant to taste like? Is it a bit like rosemary?). Lovely. Refreshing. I will be buying this again.

Bottle @ YNWA, Kolding.
Light hazy golden with a small creamy white head. Aroma is packed with heather, light hay and a little wine gums. Okay mouthfeel. Flavour is sweet, light chewy, lots of heather and a bit of tartness in the finish.

Amber body, no head. Heather gives a nice floral kick. Palate proposes tart spicy banana bread and honey hints. Very refreshing, perfect medium effervescence. Light-medium body. Addictive spices somehow manages to provide balance to the mostly sweet flavor profile. Quaffable. I wouldn’t see this type of beer as any potential world-beater, but in its genre, it’s very satisfying if not quite a flavor festival. Thanks Josh!

Aroma is intreaging, floural and spicey. Taste is different, gee is it different, im gettin like flowers mixed into your bubblegum toothpaste, with a sweetness also coming from some hark depths of the seeweed that seems to be cutting in too. Different and intresting, worth a go if u see it on draft.

This beer really rocks. No time to write very much about it. However, I love Scotch Ales and this is on of my favorites. Just go buy a bottle and give it a try. The heather adds an interesting twist to this malty brew.

Clear golden with a thin coating of small bubbled head. Light flowery and sweet malty aroma. Body is thin and semi-sweet with an earthy bitter finish. This is an interesting beer and is exceptionally drinkable considering its similarities to an American standard.
