Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Amber colored. Thin white head that goes away quickly. Spicey floral aroma. Malty and sweet beer. Spicy finish. Very thin mouth feel. Decent beer.

Pours decent deep golden with an off white halo of a head. The nose is solid with some citrus, malt and corn like grain along with floral notes. The flavor is very much the same with less complexity, but an interesting honey influence there as well.

floral aroma, lasting head, light golden color, bit of citrus in the flavor...not a very complex beer, but interesting nonetheless.

Had this beer on 1/9/2006. Aroma is a sweet malt scent. Color is light orange with very low carbonation and head. Taste is rich, sweet and spicy. It all starts with a medium body that goes down with a creamy sweet malt feel. Finish comes on with a sweet malt flavor backed by a light bitterness and a slight spicy feel. This is a tasty full flavored beer.

Pours an orangey color with a soapy tiny white head. Nose is skunky german hops and oxidized beer with a faint hint of clover honey. Taste is like watery grassy clover. Ever ate one of those pink flowers in the middle of a field? Thats exactly what this tastes like. Watery mouthfeel and a short finish. Id rather get drunk on fermented sewage than this set of heather ales from the williams brothers. Drain poured the entire set except ebolum.

I’ve only had one Heather Ale before this one. Just an average beer, slight hops, grassy aroma and easy to drink. I didn’t feel the "full malt character" but Fraoch did have a dry finish.

Bottle. Poured a hazy light orange color. Little head that was gone fast. I smell malt and something else. Really faint. There is a bit of bitter end to this. I am sorry but this is a rather unremarkable beer.
