Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Golden color with a medium white head. Aroma is floral and herbs. Flavor is also floral and malty. Aftertaste is dry and easy to drink.

Guess the part of me that loves history is glad that this is made, but beyond that I can’t see muchin this. not offensive, but not much to it. Rather lacking in many respects.

Slightly hazy light orange. Head fades quickly. Early malt flavor fades into a grassy/spice finish. Interesting. I've had it before and remember liking it better than this bottle.

Interesting butterscotch and herbal with a hint of peach aroma. Slightly hazy with an orangish color. Low carbonation with next to no head. Tastes like a softer version of a British Pale ale but has a middle of the tongue "twang" and finishes dry and a bit tart.Decent body. Low bitterness with little hop character.Well balanced to feature the mild flavor of heather. Was a little boring for my tastes but I could see how a fresh cask could be satisfying.

Orangeish amber in color, slightly hazy, with a large, cream-colored head. Head is mostly diminishing and leaves behind some lacing. Aroma is strong of heather flowers, with some added caramalized malt, cinnamon, and something rooty I can only compare to ginger. Heather gives an herbally, squash-like flavor. Lightly roasted malts add another dimension to the flavor. Rather dry finish. Good in small doses -- too much, and the gingerness can get a tad draining.

This beer seems underrated on here. I thought it was really good. Bottle... Poured a hazy orange with a white head. Aroma was a little skunky with with hops and berries probably from the heather flowers. Despite the look of this ale (as being light), it definitely has some substance and depth to the flavors. Well carbonated with strong, floral, leafy flavors with some tartness probably from the malted barley. Pretty tasty.

Bottle. Interesting. Nice pour with hazy golden color. Sweet and malty. Hard to really place the flavor, but it was deffinately unique.

This beer is very crisp and light. It has a very sweet, honey-like aroma and the flavor definetly has the essence of heather flowers. I agree with notalush, I’d buy it again in warmer weather.
