Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Bottle. Warm dark golden with a nice, albeit short lasting head. Sweet, flowers, herbs, dry and low-medium bitter finish. Soft mouthfeel. Pleasent.

strange listing for this beer....craigmill, forth, or williams brothers. finally found it. hazy orange brown color with some fluffed white head. nose of spice, apples, and flowers. first few sips seemed interesting and thin. some different flavors rolling around, but the one that kept coming back and dominating as the beer warms was the horrible perfume, flower aroma and flavor. unique but not my bag.

Had this one bottled (thanks Arnie!). Deep golden straw pour with a lacy white head, sweet bread in the nose, quite sweet with notes of clover honey and gin. Not great, but not bad.

Unique floral aroma and flavor. Personally, i think i like the aroma better than the taste. Overall, a very different but pretty good beer.

Couldn’t find any attraction to this one. Actually expected a lot more than what was delivered. From the bottle. Pours a clear, golden bronze with no head and alarmingly big bubbles that clung firmly to the side giving it the appearance of lucozade. Very distant aroma of wild heather, rusted car bodies and wood. In the mouth it’s quite thin and seemingly watery with a heady fizz to it. Flavour has again distant heather notes with some light chamomile, dull malts, oak, stale hops and dried flower petals. Quite dull, nothing exciting yet it seems quite soothing. Finish has a tinge of salt and honey with more dried herbs set to linger just long enough to dry it out. Overall it wasn’t bad, but it just doesn’t sit right on the palate and lacks the feel of a good traditional Ale. (33cL, Morrison’s, Bayswater, London)
