Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

I got this in a 11.2 oz slim brown bottle with an ancient Pictish style label had a freshness date of Dec 2004. The appearance is good a darkish honey brown but nothing too special small head that leaves a tiny halo of lace round the edge. Smell is surprisinglly malty with a backing of a fresh rain scent. Thetase is deceptivlly sweet..thats what you taste first then you get a real strong "scotch whisky"/ aftertaste peaty a wee bit even..very nice Feels good in the mouth not too much carbonation...and is very drinkable in my opinion

Sweet, honey aroma. Amber in color, averaged sized head. It had a hopped. bready taste with sweet nutty malts topping it all off as it warmed.

Golden with thin white quickly discipating white head, kind of hazy. The nose is sheaty and grainy barley. The taste has that lager funk wheaty and not all that good. Nothing to go crazy over.

it is earthy and has good flavors though the components of herbs and heather are light flavor, as i find it. herbal and spicy indeed and a hop character that is just about hidden as it would be. still quite pleasant with peat (more of a thought) than a strong flavor this is good refreshing beer and possibly the water gives it that memorable clean and sweet component.

Pleasant hoppy aroma. Beautiful golden-brown pour, frothy head. Sligtly bitter flavor, hops are prevalent. Very clean finish.

This was very different. Tasted very earthy and is worth a try simply for the historic value.

Bottle. Pours a light chestnut with a thin white head. Nose of botanical malt, some bitter hop and coriander. Obvious peaty nose. Mouth is slightly sweet, very floral. Rather surprising, peat and coriander. Palate is bitter, slightly sweet, lasts well. Quite enjoyable, if not a little too fragrant.

12 fl. oz. bottle in a gift pack from the LCBO. App.: orangey med. amber, fluffy, sl. yellow-orange head. Aroma: lots of fruits (reminds me of the gooseberry brew), caramel and darker malts behind them. A clove-like, estery quality like Weizen. Palate: thinnish body, a bit powdery or astringent, less fruit than on the nose, a little watery with some caramel and dark malt to finish. Meh...
