Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

12 fl. oz. bottle in a gift pack from the LCBO. App.: orangey med. amber, fluffy, sl. yellow-orange head. Aroma: lots of fruits (reminds me of the gooseberry brew), caramel and darker malts behind them. A clove-like, estery quality like Weizen. Palate: thinnish body, a bit powdery or astringent, less fruit than on the nose, a little watery with some caramel and dark malt to finish. Meh...

very, very smooth. clear in color and almost sour in flavor definately a sour aftertaste. This is a very average beer. and for the price - it won’t be purchased by me again.

Bottle: Brilliant amber ale with a rocky-sticky 3 finger cap that laces the supreme hell out of the glass sides! Looks great...Lottsa malt! Siganture aromas for this brewer: floral wild botanicals with a musty-woody herbaceous decernment, some clover honey-like sweetness. Rigid primal malt spine, medium body, floral-herbal-grainy character Up front a rush a solid coarse ground bready malts just as they begin to sweeten, a flood of herbal-botanical flavors rush in to keep them from cloying...nice herbal-musk mellon tastes devlop...finish is mellow, soft and accentuated with a nice herbacious heather-like taste that lingers as lightly bittering aftertaste with the hopping. I’m really impressed with the ales from this brewer....consistantly malt-herbal tasting and infinitely mellow with a soft mineral mouth.

Couldy golden color with no head. Thin soapy ring. Slightly sweet aroma. Fruity aftertaste with minimal spice. Refreshing.

Bottle. Caramel colored brew with no head. Honey sweet aroma with a touch of yeast. Interesting. The flavor, however, is fairly bland. With just a touch of grain flavor and yeast being the only discernable tastes. A hint of sweetness also. Wet medium mouth feel. Boring really.

Sparkling copper, foaming soapy pale head. Slightly metallic, pizza dough-like aroma, reminds me of a martini, mild funky sourness, feels quite thin. Same funk in the flavor, along with peppery herbs, little metallic maltiness. Lingering herbal & toffeeish finish. Light bodied, average bulky palate. Sourish and light brew, but manages to be somewhat interesting. I had a small piece of flora in my bottle, so I guess that could have caused some of that funk.

Pours a hazy pale orange color with a small amount of foamy white head. Aroma is of mint, wet mulch, damp leaves, and a wet dog thrown in for good measure...definitely very unique. Flavor is dirt, leaves, mint, and mushrooms which i did not enjoy. overall, not a good tasting beer at all.

Pours golden/amber color with a white head. Aroma is of heather flowers, spices, and some sweet malts. Huge floral flavor with some spices and a sweet finish. Probably the most floral flavor I’ve had on a beer. Not bad but it’s nothing I would go searching for.
