Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

I don’t really know what heather tastes or smells like, so I wasn’t sure what to expect from this beer. And it didn’t really taste like anything unusual...it was just kind of generic, not great, beer. Appearance was rather pale, with just a touch of white head. Aroma was pretty minimal. Flavor was a bit cerealy, but also very subtle. Mouthfeel was a bit watery. Far from the best beer I’ve had in recent memory.

Nice hazy orange/brown color. Very little carbonation/head. Wonderful sweet aroma, with a flavor to match. What really sticks out with this beer is the immediate aftertaste. There are strong floral flavors that leap out about two seconds after you swallow. Very interesting.

Pours a lightly hazy orange with a tiny head. Aroma is floral (heather?) Flavor is much the same with a hint of malty sweetness.

500 ml bottle. Finland. Definitely interesting beer. Some floral/herbal notes in aroma as well as in flavour.

I liked this. Ordinarily I have trouble straying outside the Reinheitsgebot - I love the idea of otherly flavored brews but usually am disappointed. This time I was pleasantly surprised - the botanical flavours include hops, but something else, like newly mown alfalfa - not offputting at all.

has a citrus malt type aroma, has a fresh crisp floral taste, body seemed a bit thin, but pretty decent.

sweet & spicy aroma. Pours a golden yellow and has a slight cloudiness, mild carbonation and weak head. Not much in the way of the palate until the end. Finishes slightly sweet and a bit hoppy. I'd drink this again, as opposed to their Grozet, which was sub-par.

Poured a clear, grapefruit like color with a thin, whispy white head. Interesting and unique floral aroma a little like incense. Initial flavor is malty, sweet but also a tad soapy. Finish was watery and sweet with floral notes and honey. Pleasant and refreshing for the most part.
