Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Bottled. Floral, cookie and licorice aroma. Hazy, yellow color, small white head, fair lace. Sweet malty flavor, floral - anis like - and cookie, light dry. Not bad but I’m not convinced.

Light hazy amber/gold color, creamy white head and nice lacing. The aroma is crisp with hops with notes of citrus wheat. Flavor is very unique at first, full body with lots of malt flavors and a smooth, delicious crisp finish. This is very tasty beer, unique and interesting.

500ml bottle. Dark amber with little to no head. Interesting aroma I think. Light body with small finish. Flavor is light sweet with a short finish. Very interesting brew.

Somewhat soapy smell and "flat" in appearance. The taste however is excellent. I imagine pure heather would taste like this, you almost feel transformed to a field on a Summer's day

Light gold in colour. Aromas are citrus and floral. Flavours are obviously herbal and floral considering the brewing methods. Some spiciness, too. Tastes a little medicinal. Unusual.

Dark golden beer with a nice medium head. Malt aroma with herbs, obviously mostly heather. Weak flavour with a little earth and some bitterness at the end. OK, but not spectacular.

Bottle from Super Saver. Pours somewhat hazy deep golden/dark straw with 1-finger, creamy, perfectly uniform off-white head. The aroma is bready malty, with some honey-toned malt, fruit, and honey. The taste is malty and piney, with some hops, honey, apricot, and a sprucy note. Medium palate that is smooth and fairly complex. Gets flowery and morepiney as it warms. This one is underrated by half a point or so, and well worth seeking out. Get ya some!
