Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Pale yellow with a smallish white head, and a fruity aroma and aftertaste. There is an interesting flavour that I presume is from the heather. A pleasant beer.

This brew poured a small sized head of fine to medium sized off white bubbles. It has a cloudy amber brown body with some carbonation clinging to the side of the glass. It had a smooth malty initial taste with some, but not much tang to the finish. It was very smooth with a good full bodied flavor.

Bottle. [Courtesy of yespr, thanks buddy] Huge beige and creamy head that mostly lasted. Good display of lacework. Clear golden colour. Fair display lf lacework. Clear golden colour. Aroma of toasted malt, fruit, grain, strange herbal feel, coriander, ginger, flower. Medium bodied with an average carbonation. Moderated sweet flavour with mild bitter notes. Herbal and spicy lingering finish.

This poured from the 11.2oz bottle with a pleasant warm orange color and a well-former white topping of white bubbles. There’s a nice little flowery aroma that you’d expect from a beer made with heather. The flavors are bolder and brighter than I might expect ... very much flowery, almost mulchy! Herbal and green, I feel like yelling some William Wallace quote. Beauty. (#2687, 2/6/2007)

(Bottled, sampled earlier when RB was broken) Clear, deep golden with a small, firm and partly lasting head. Mild aroma of nutty conifer tree, citrusness, berries, and a hint of pineapple. Toffee-malty, nutty-hoppy flavor with citrusy fruitiness, junipery resin, and slightly gingery-burning in the aftertaste. Ligt to medium, slightly thin body with medium carbonation. Overall a pleasant, easily drinkable brew with personality. Pretty mild, though.

Wow crazy artwork, are they compensating? Pours a hazy golden body with a big floral aroma. Some burnt malt, spice of pepper and cinnamon, and the floral herbal finish playing a huge role. Something different but not for me.

Bottle. Wooden juniper and strawberry aroma. Hazy amber, low white head. Somewhat disappointing flavor: Light straw and cookie malt, light heather bitterness. Lightbodied, mellow. Fairly dead aftertaste.

Poured a copper color with a small white head and nice lacing. Floral hoppy, fruity aroma. Caramel, malt, DMS taste with a full mouthfeel.
