Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

This is very interesting...as all things with the name Heather in them should be. There really is nothing that I can think of that really compares to this beer. It is well crafted and quite tasty once you are initiated by the first somewhat bitter sip.

Lightly flowery, yeasty, fruity, earthy aroma with a hint of honey-toasted malt. Hazy orange-copper color with a decent head and very fine effervescence. Heather really comes through on the flavor, where it combines with the estery yeast and lightly toasted, lightly sweet maltiness. Light to medium bodied with a slightly oily mouthfeel and a citrusy, herbal, dryish finish. It had been quite a while since the last time I had this ale. I missed it..

Usually don’t comment on this, but it’s a pretty neat looking label and the beer pours beautifully. Not much on the nose, and the mouth feel is a little thin for my liking, otherwise a much higher rating would be in order.

Poured out from an imported 330 mL bottle. The beer poured a dark amber color with a thin white head. The body was light and smooth with mild carbonation, and did have the advertised dry finish. The heather flowers dominated the armoa and I was surprised by how they also appeared in the flavor, which was sweet and just a tiny bit sour. A great beer from the bottle, one that I hope to try again.

unusual and very drinkable - pours gold with a fine white head, aroma flowery, sweet and sharp. flavour is pleasntly spicy, smoky and flowery - reminds me of a belgian in a way. nicely malty and a little warming, finish dry, aromatic and lingering. thumbs up.
