Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Weak head, nice color with good golden brown. A bit fruity in taste, solid hop background without being too overwhelming.

This was a very interesting beer. Very malty. The heather flowers apparently aren’t very bitter, but they do lend a very subtle floral quality to the taste. I’d be willing to drink this again I think. Very interesting beer. It was a surprising find. I just happened upon it at a liquor store I frenquent and there was one bottle sitting there. I had never seen it before.

Another one from the crazy Scotsmen…Flowers and herbs dipped in vanilla with a drop of lemon for good measure…Caramel syrup aged in wooden casks with a drop of honey for loads of pleasure…In the back of the tongue, a drop of bathroom cleaner for a good seizure…

Bottle. Pours a deep, bright gold with no head. The aroma hit syou with apple pie and flowers. Very sweet to smell. The taste is a slight peach. The flavor changes later in the beer to an orange sherbert like finish. Has a medium mouthfeel. Very satisfying.

This poured from the 11.2oz bottle with a pleasant warm orange color and a well-former white topping of white bubbles. There’s a nice little flowery aroma that you’d expect from a beer made with heather. The flavors are bolder and brighter than I might expect ... very much flowery, almost mulchy! Herbal and green, I feel like yelling some William Wallace quote. Beauty. (#2687, 2/6/2007)

Cloudy yellow in color. Dry like flavors, I think dry white muscat grapes. Fruity aroma. Malty. Really good.
