Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Orange-brown beer with small head. Hazy. Fruity aroma with tones of mint. Fruity flavour with tones of red jelly candy, spices and black pepper.

I think I ruined my bottle - I had put it in the freezer to cool it down a little, then my girlfriend showed up, and two days later I discovered it all frozen in a puddle of beer slush. Rather than toss it, I let it thaw and tried it out, and I rather liked it despite the abuse it took.

murky peaty water colour. Spritzy mouthfeel.Tangy flowery/heathery aroma and finish. Began to enjoy it more towards end of pint, as I began to adjust to it.. couldve done with another to rate further. Another bottle yesterday. Room temperature this time and I enjoyed it immensely. Head was huge, lovely and lasted. Soapy/creamy muthfeel.

Nice aroma. I like a beer that calls out to you like a genie when you uncap it. Slightly cloudy. Does almost look like a cider. Smooth palate. Kind of like a tame Belgian without the alcohol or deeper flavour characteristics. Although lighter, the spiciness and heather flavours are intriguing and make it worth buying another bottle.

Earthy, heather, peat smoke, elegant flower-like aroma, medium bodied, dry no hop aroma, but some in the flavour profile.

I was pretty amazed by this one. For some reason my expectations weren't too high. However the aroma was quite good; sweet, peach, some malts. Appearance was okay, poors out with a nice head (doesn't last) orange/amber coloured. Cloudy. Taste is hoppy, peachy and some smooth malts. Bit watery. Clean, smooth, dry palate. Quite okay.

This is the most unique ale I think I have ever had. Lots of sweet spices in the aroma and taste, cinnamon, nutmeg, perhaps some clover honey, but lots of ginger, almost a ginger ale like quality to this one. Strong wine like mouthfeel that is very dry in the finish.
