Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Orangeish amber in color, slightly hazy, with a large, cream-colored head. Head is mostly diminishing and leaves behind some lacing. Aroma is strong of heather flowers, with some added caramalized malt, cinnamon, and something rooty I can only compare to ginger. Heather gives an herbally, squash-like flavor. Lightly roasted malts add another dimension to the flavor. Rather dry finish. Good in small doses -- too much, and the gingerness can get a tad draining.

Bottle. Deep orange with a patchy head. Aroma is sweet citrus with a touch of pine. Flavor is sourish with a very unique resiny tinge. Really different and enjoyable. Thick and full-bodied.

bottle poured an amber in color with a thin white foam layer on the top. decent carbination, smell is caramel malt, flowery yeast, nutmeg, and some earthy tones. taste is lighter than the smell leads on, malts are fairly smooth, dry on the finish, and some sweetness. definitely a different beer in a nice way, the heather has a very garden grown spices taste like it could come from my own herb garden. interesting to think of people thousands of years ago drinking this stuff, lots of heather instead of hops.

Pours with a medium fluffy white head and a hazy blonde color. Aroma is spicy with some ginger and lots of floral notes with just a touch of rubbing alcohol. Flavor is like the aroma very strong with a spicy ginger, some slight grainy maltiness, and a bit of alcohol. I’d have thought this was stronger than what it was with as much alcohol seems to show through but I like it none the less. The flavor is very herbal, almost like a very good herbal tea. The palate is soft; this is a very nice beer to drink.

500ml bottle from Waitrose, Christchurch. Pours a fine amber colour with a small white head. Has floral / citrus aromas. Very pleasing taste with, again, floral notes coming through. Also, a hint of clover?. A nice dry finish to it. Certainly an unusual ale but very pleasant.

Ottima.

Pours golden color with white head that quickly disappears. Very floral aroma. Flavor is herbal, flowery and spicy. I’m getting some cinnamon and citrus also. Medium body with lively carbonation. I enjoyed this one.
