Medium body with a malty backbone and cittusy notes. Light finish but rather pleasing withal. Is this what ale was like before hops? RaphaelN (195), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 1, 2007 Bottle shared with a friend. New style of beer for me. Peat-like smell, with a flower-fruit like aroma. Had a moderate palate with flavours of spiced wine, malt and oddly enough.... flowers? mgermani (865), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 6, 2006 Pours a pale yellow with a nice white head which sticks around for a while. A nice, slightly sour aroma, floral. A rather astringent taste, light, mild malting and floral "hopping" from the Heather. Carbonation is appropriate. A very drinkable beer, a great alternative to American light beers. thooper41 (386), Oregon, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 8, 2008 330ml bottle: pours golden brown with minimal white head, aroma has a slight hint of malt, flavor has a very dry malt ofset by a slight bitterness but im not even sure if there are hops in this, it could be the taste from the heather but its very interesting bitterness. all in all this beer gets an A for effort on the style but just a pretty good beer over all. dmschefke (371), Eastpointe, Michigan, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 7, 2009 Pours a nice pale goldish orange with medium white head, minimal lacing. Aroma is a pleasant floral, spices, slight malt, and a bit of an herbal nature. Flavor matches well and is very smooth and easy to drink. Definitely different and very enjoyable. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 16, 2009 A nice Scots ale and different from the others - gotta be the heather! It poured an orange colour with a generous amount of sediment (read: cloudy), and the head was a rather small white one; short-lived and no lacing were the order of the day here. Aroma was nice and gentle although hard to detect at first, somewhat floral; again I credit the heather. Taste and mouthfeel were both pleasant and clean, along with a nice aftertaste. A nice beer. sound67 (215), Offenbach, Germany

Pours a wee-hazy yellow golden with a medium white head that collapses mighty quickly but leaves generous lacing.
Aroma of herbal spices (not sure about "heather"), raspberry and yeast. Definitely different from a regular lager.
Medium-bodied pale blonde with active carbonation and good, earthy mouth feel.
Herbal and flowery notes feature strongly in the taste, evidence that the pre-fermenting mixing with heather flowers works. There’s a refreshing hoppy dryness about this beer that nicely balances the wee-sweetish flowery taste. Bitterness increases towards the middle, the finish is dry. After taste, again, offers lingering herbal and flowery notes. Thank God the whole thing doesn’t taste like perfume or soap!
An intriguing, very different (in a good way) lager-ish beer that’s both characterful and refreshing. Well-balanced, sessionable. Good work!
