Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Je l’ai bu avec un pizza un peu d’épice, ils avaient raison. Ce n’est pas une bière typique, elle a un saveur hors de l’ordinaire, un goût d’herbe et épice, florale et beaucoup de caractaire.

This beer really rocks. No time to write very much about it. However, I love Scotch Ales and this is on of my favorites. Just go buy a bottle and give it a try. The heather adds an interesting twist to this malty brew.

Smells pretty nice. Was told this was a Scottish ale, what makes it traditional? A dry finish is noticeable, and this isn’t too malty. I could drink this again if I had to.

Pours golden orange with a nice white head. The nose comes off real smooth and soft, a mix of maple syrup, malt, and honey. I really like the smell of this... One of the best I have ever put my nose to. The taste is very smooth with hints of honey and spices. This ale is very interesting. I don’t know what heather smells or tastes like, but if it is represented correctly here I would like to seek out this intriguing flower.

Pours a cloudy straw hue with fluffy one finger buttermilk head and mild carbonation. Lemony floral nose with hints of coriander, maybe cinnamon. Very floral taste with cinnamony finish. A little hop presence buried deep in the mix. Well blended. Mouthfeel is of medium density with light carbonation. I got a strange burning sensation on my lips, although I couldn’t tell whether that was coming from the beer or some other factor. I wasn’t eating at the time so aside from the glass I was using, I’m not sure where else this could have come from. I could see this making a good session beer - not too strong either tastewise or in terms of alcohol content.

Bottle. Clear, golden color with a thin head. Light, fruity aroma. Really simple yet good flavor. With a strong malt backbone, and a dry, clean finish, this beer is semi herbal or floral, has light notes of apricot, touch of grape. Very refreshing, I don’t know why such low scores. I thought this was well done and original. The history alone deserves a point or two.

Malty aroma rises from freshly opened bottle. Pours a deep orange with very little head. What head there is has soapy look. The aroma has slight floral tones with hints of heather (no suprise since fraoch is Gaelic for heather and this ale is made using traditional techniques and flavored with the flower of the heather plant). The flavor is very malty with no strong bitterness at the front but it does coat the tongue with a slight bitterness on the finish. The malty sweetness stays on the palate long after finishing the drink. Definitely worth a try for anyone who enjoys malty beers.
