Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

A hazy orange beer with a huge off-white head. The aroma is quite spicy with lots of herbs, as well as notes of chocolate. The flavor is sweet with quite powerful notes of honey, but also notes of flowers, I seem to pick up roses, and herbs, but also some heather. The end is dry with the spicy honey lingering. I like this - I would have enjoyed living 4000 years ago, if this was what I was drinking.

This beer is very crisp and light. It has a very sweet, honey-like aroma and the flavor definetly has the essence of heather flowers. I agree with notalush, I’d buy it again in warmer weather.

This is a very light and drinkable ale, with an inviting, floral aroma, and a wheaty, slightly malty flavor that contains just a hint of flowers (which I am assuming is the "heather" aspect to this beer). I’ll buy this beer again, but probably for light, summer drinking.

Interesting aroma, I can’t quite place it. Sweet and enticing. My guess would be heather which the label speaks of. Barley in the aroma and flavor.

Amber orage with a thin head. I was pleasantly suprised by the heather aroma and flavor. Slightly sweet, but not in the typically Scottish/malty sense. I though it would be very subtle. An unusual and satisfying brew.
