Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Bottle. Amber brown with no head. Smells of earthy spices... some dried flowers, some dirt, some slightly cinnamonlike aroma that isn’t quite cinnamon. Flavor... ooh it’s a strange one. A bit of earthiness to it as well. Dirtiness, some dried flowers, slight pepper- kinda like "poor-man’s pepper" in the finish. Decent tasting, but not something I’m crazy about. Definitely gets a point for originality and for bring back an old style that nobody else does. Addendum: the further into the glass i get, the more I enjoy it.

Orange-gold colour with a thin white head. The aroma is unsurprisingly very floral, with a faint malty character as well. Sweet caramel and a hint of peat. The flavour is also quite malty, with some sweetness, faint spiciness, and a very floral finish. The flowery character seems to last on the palette for awhile. Not as different as I thought a beer completely lacking hops would be. This is a good refreshing beer.

Nice beer with a very original taste. It has a warm amber color with a normal medium head. In the nose you have intens floral aroma’s with a fresh lemongrass like accent. The taste is smooth and a little oily. In the mouth you have apple like hints and white wine accents. In the afthertaste there is a nice complex touch of flowers and fresh herbs.

Poured like plains east of Denver so I wasn’t expecting too much; however, the first taste was surpisingly tasty. Very floral but not too sharp; a slight sweetness takes over before too much damage can be done. A very pleasant surprise... I would definitely drink this one again.

Medium shiny offwhite head. Bronze body. Strange sweetish aroma of unidentifiable herbs, probably heather. Taste is light sweetish herbal with honey notes. Aftertaste is dry and metallic. Very interesting, and quite nice. (0.5l bottle.)

Hazy amber with little head. Pleasant floral aroma. Malty, with spice and herbal flavors. Mild, but interesting and pleasant, with nice medium body. Easy drinking ale with the plus of being somewhat different from the standard fare. Picked this up on the way home from the North East FLorida Scottish Games Festival, with thanks to my wife for spotting it in the cooler and encouraging me to give it a try. Very Nice.

(Bottle 50 cl) Presumably a historic ale from Scotland from times when heather rather than hops were used as bittering ingredient. Beautiful amber, filtered with a creamy head. Has some gingery notes, but it’s probably from the added sweet gale. A very interesting beer. 290804

The aroma has a distinctive floral character and the color is a golden with a white head. The flavor is much like that of a flower petal, somewhat characteristic of edible orchids. This is balanced with some maltiness and a bit of hoppish spiciness. The finish is smooth.
