Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Pours a lightly hazy orange with a tiny head. Aroma is floral (heather?) Flavor is much the same with a hint of malty sweetness.

Honey-colored with some bubbles, but no head. Apple-cinnamon aroma. Malty flavor without much complexity. Finishes smooth and dry. Enjoyable overall.

Pours a pretty translucent copper amber with a medium white frothy head. The aroma is sweet, caramel, and herbs. The flavor is fairly sweet, not too much substance to it. An earthy herbal character, some caramel. Fairly light and easy to drink. A pleasant beer, definitely better than the Grozet.

Interesting aroma, floral, with earthy tones. Slight maltiness. The appearance is a very hazy yellow with a gold/red tinge. Interesting flavor: lot of maltiness, and some spicy notes. The palate has a strange yet not unpleasant bread dough like character, which dissipates quickly. A little fruitiness also lingers. Interesting brew. I will always try any so-called "traditional ale" as I find them fascinating. This one is definitely unique and worth a try, even if I wouldn’t drink it everyday.

Deep golden/orange hazy look with a fine white bubbling head. Aroma is heather spicey and honey sweet. The flavor is really nice. Interresting spicey notes without being too weird, some sweetness in there and bitterness in the finish. Good brew

Poured from a bottle a rich tawny-copper body with a medium sized foamy white head. Nose of sweet fruitiness and malts. Creamy and light bodied. Herbal heather sweetness resonates in palate. very easy to drink. Fruity citrusy notes compliment the peaty and malty esters. finished dry and rich.

A beer that everyone should try, though it takes a bit of getting used to at first. The heath and clover aftertaste that plays merrily with the floral nose making this a damn interesting brew.
