Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Deep golden with low retention.Nice big floral/hop aroma.Babysbreath? Flavor is sweet and floral with good hops and sweet malts. A most interesting flavor. Earthy, woodsy and sweet. Body is a bit light but interesting blends make up for that shortcoming. Not one I'd drink often but I'd love to try it on draught.

Light (clear) copper color. Lots of carbonation. Loose, frothy head. Flavor is smooth and malty with a unique spicy tone. Quite refreshing with a fruity aftertaste. I'd love to try brewing without hops. Very interesting stuff.

Pours a one finger white head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving some lace. Hazy amber color. Mellow sweet nose. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Flavor is sweet, doughy and mellow. Better flavor as it warms. $4.10 for a 500ml bottle from Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, Me.

peat moss in there, bitter, long dry finish. Citrus, honey, some malts. Barley in there. Understated carbonation. I wonder how this would be three years aged.

From a 500 ml bottle this poured a light brown with an off-white head and light lacing Nose is as its name implies, heather. Medium mouthfeel. Flavor is floral and full of the heather notes. Dry finish. Interesting and quite drinkable brew.

22 May 2006 - Sweet light roasted choc malt with spiceness. Murky brown-orange colour, poor head and reasonable lacing. Sweet spicy licorice malt hop flavour. Finishes with sweet spicy malt .
