Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Pleasant hoppy aroma. Beautiful golden-brown pour, frothy head. Sligtly bitter flavor, hops are prevalent. Very clean finish.

Tasted in Toronto from LCBO. Aroma is flowery with a honey aroma. Hints of lavender and clove / spice. Appearance is amber / copper in colour, small white head. Flavour is sweet, with a honey-like taste. No hoppy bitterness (after all it is made with Heather as opposed to hops). Malt richness comes out well with the heather background.

Cloudy, dark blond beer. Sweet, yeasty and spicy aroma, maybe with some hoeny as well. Spicy, bitter taste.

Bottle. Fascinating - a complex honey-floral nose, then a wonderful warm, sweet, foxy, honeyed taste with a dark malt, slightly bitter after taste. Mmmmm. [3.2]
Re-rate. Gravity Cask, Kent Beer Festival, with Nuffield & Duff. Soft, gentle, floral citric aroma. Bitter wood up front. More interesting than it is enjoyable. However, it is jolly enjoyable. [3.4]

Definitely not predictable the first time I had it! Unique taste, to say the least. Floral aroma and taste, obviously. Slightly darker blond with decent carbonation and head. Don't let it get warm when you drink it.

Pours clear medium golden, with a thick white head, slowly dimishes to a good lacing. Aroma is sweet, flowery, grassy, like a spring day. Flavor is clean, spicy, sweet, flowery. Hints of rosemary in both the aroma and flavor started to come through about midway. Body is medium, ends dry, lingering flavor.

I really enjoyed the refreshing taste of this beer. It is very flowery and it went down fairly smooth.

Very thin white head...golden-orangy color with lots of little things floating in it (sea monkeys?). The aroma really reminded me of the Berkshire Botanical Gardens with all that flowery stuff going on. the taste...is different. it really tastes like it's lacking something, but in a floral kinda way. kinda like really crappy-as cider with no bite. there's a slight fizziness to it when you first taste it, but it's gone a half-second later. it's interesting in a historical way (kinda sorta), and it's ok and definately drinkable, but i can't get over the fact that it needs something (hops!). i wonder if Fraoch means "we have three of four ingredients for beer, so what the hell, let's make a batch and see how it turns out!"
