Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Ancient brew with an interesting aroma. Heather flowers - although I’ve never seen one - contribute an interesting flavor. Have to say, it adds a ’flowery’ aroma like none other (not ’flowery’ like cascade hops... more like ’flowery,’ as in ’earthy’ and ’grassy’). Not bad. My only complaint is that I found it a little too sweet. Enjoyed the clean, dry, ’wine-like’ finish though. Definitely a unique brew.

Pours a light golden/orange sort of color. Aroma is sweet and somewhat malty. Some kind of a fruity like aroma as well. Flavor seems to be mostly sweet and malty. Slightly bitter finish. Also seems fairly rich and slightly roasty. Tastes like a good ESB or something along those lines.

Soft delicate fruitiness on top of a decent malt background. I am rather intrigued by the heather. I felt like there was a decent bitterness as well as the soft floweriness (almost lavendery) from the heather.

light orange gold color with a small creamy head. citric flower aroma with a light graininess to it. thin creamy body. honey malt comes out in the flavor with some acidic flowers and herbs. havent had many traditional ales so didnt really know what to expect. drinks like a very floral, light pale ale

Aroma is sweet matls, with scant detectable hops, sweet fruits, suggesting berries, and figs. It’s color is a golden translucent color, akin to a cider, with a thin white collar. It’s flavor is a light sweet fruit and malt, with berries. The palate is like a champagne, light dry, w/ moderate effervescence.

Aroma of sweet malt and honey. Pours cloudy dark yellow with a head that completely disappears. Flavor is spice, a little citrus, grassy bitterness, honey, all over a malt backbone. Interesting beer.
