Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Malty aroma rises from freshly opened bottle. Pours a deep orange with very little head. What head there is has soapy look. The aroma has slight floral tones with hints of heather (no suprise since fraoch is Gaelic for heather and this ale is made using traditional techniques and flavored with the flower of the heather plant). The flavor is very malty with no strong bitterness at the front but it does coat the tongue with a slight bitterness on the finish. The malty sweetness stays on the palate long after finishing the drink. Definitely worth a try for anyone who enjoys malty beers.

Heather and BEER ! THESE are wierd. Earthy smells and flavors. I imagined the vikings drinking this before ransacking a villaging and killing its inhaitants. The poor picts didn’t standd a chance or maybe it was the scotts drinking the beer. Either way. vedry good

11.2 oz bottle. Pours a very cloudy golden color with a small white not long lasting head. It has the aroma of malt and flowers. It has a wonderful hay and roasted flavor along with a nut flavor a cola flavor and a surprising nice flower aftertaste. I really enjoyed this beer immensely.

Scotland, bottle Heather = Ljung = Älskling, ljuvliga ljunghonungs smaker. 20090903: Sanker lite då man inte kommer ihåg allt. Ljust øl med trevligt skum. Lång eftersmak av ljunghonung...

Very earthy and mossy. I can’t emphasize enough how ’earthy’ this tastes and it works. Very unique and worth seeking out.

appearance is dark amber colour , inbetween what one expocts from amber and brown ales. interesting taste different but pleasing. rather pricey stuff but give it a try if you can find it.

Nice beer to have with a light dinner. I have never eaten heather before, but I guess that is the ’earthy’ flavor everyone describes. Very pleasant brew.
