Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Floral aroma backed by malt. Hazy amber gold color with a minimal white head. Starts sweet with an evergreen or herbal primacy. A bit spicy, and the heather seems to balance out the malt. It even has a fairly dry finish, and something that is almost next to bitter. Interesting stuff.

Medium orange gold color. Small head. Aroma is malty, peaty, herbal and slightly sweet. A medium bodied traditional ale. Sweet and fruity with hints of peet and smoke. I won’t talk about the malts or hops in this beer, because I am not sure it has either. Malts are sweet. No hops. Nice carbonation. An interesting beer, Not sure I would drink this one all the time, but it interesting nonetheless. It has a lot more sweet wine like qualities than a beer. Heather Ales makes some very interesting beers; this one like their other traditional/non-traditional ales is worth trying. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Bottle. Warm dark golden with a nice, albeit short lasting head. Sweet, flowers, herbs, dry and low-medium bitter finish. Soft mouthfeel. Pleasent.

Mild, pleasant, floral hop aroma with underlying sweetness. Opaque amber-tan with decent, large-bubbled, white head that recedes to cover with some patchy lacing. Floral spiciness with decent sweet malt character. Medium body and smooth in texture with gentle but engaging carbonation. Flavour becomes vastly more expressive as it warms. Bottle (LCBO - Nov. 2004).

Golden amber. Crystal clear. Quickly dissipating white head. Musky aroma, some apple hints, nectar. Peat. Medium body with some texture. Good flavor. Absence of hops is appealing. Something different and good.

341ml brown bottle. Flowery, herbal aroma with fruity malt notes, maybe some honey. Cloudy golden orange hue, just a wisp of white head. Starts fruity and sweet with dark caramel, nice matiness throughout.
