Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

When bottled, it could vary from thin and metallic to quite flavourful spicy and honeyish. But the real taste is on tap: soft, herbal, yeasty with long vinous aftertaste.

This is a bit strange on the contemporary palate - it's quite unusual. Perplexing, and admittedly challenging, it's an ale with really herbal tones. It opens with a light and sweet, though yeasty, aroma, and has a cloudy golden color with sticky dense foam. It's punchy, a bit tart, and I'm left with the thought, "oh, that's what Heather flowers taste like!" In sum, it does seem like a really fine, albeit weird and flaky, brew!

Unusual. Not sure if I could drink this all the time, but still, it is a most enjoyable brew for a taste of something different. Certainly a drink that one either will like or hate, the heather is perhaps an aquired taste. Spicy and flowery, and quite punchy, whilst not too rich, lager drinkers may enjoy this as well as beer drinkers.

I’m not sure why I like this so much. At Quenchers, a great bar in Chicago, I bought one of these for my buddy RAYBOY01. Same reaction. Odd floral aroma, but a nice look. Not bite. Not strong malt or hop flavor. Just interesting. I have to test some more.

12oz bottle from Ron’s in Farmington. Slightly hazy amber-red body with a thin film of off-white head. Floral and fruity in scent, somewhat reminiscent of banana, though not like a Hef. Tastes fruity, floral, and somewhat nutty. The nut and banana-like qualities dominate the flavor. though that’s not quite accurate. Medium in body. Tasty and quite drinkable, as well as unique. Not similar to most beers I’ve ever had, but I could definitely see drinking this one again. Delicious.

Really Good Beer. Brewed with Flowers instead of Hops. Costed a preaty penny for an import. But I gotta admit I liked it alot.

11.2 oz bottle. Pours a very cloudy golden color with a small white not long lasting head. It has the aroma of malt and flowers. It has a wonderful hay and roasted flavor along with a nut flavor a cola flavor and a surprising nice flower aftertaste. I really enjoyed this beer immensely.
