Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

bottle-thanks to vyvvy for sharing. clear orange with a soapy white head. nose is funky, moldy grapes, cardboard and musty earthyness. peat moss? honeydew, mellons and vegetal notes on the flavors. the veg here is over-the top and really becomes detracting. palate is soft with nice carbonation. not my thing

Appears to be a nice amber colour but when held up to the light appeared almost greenish. Thin white head that dissipated quickly. Malty with floral and whisky aromas. A little sweet but with some subtle spices. The dry wine like finish they refer to is there in the mouthfeel before even making it to the finish. nice.

Deep amber color with a light head. Pleasantly sour aroma with a bit of grapiness. Very light body with an herbal, tea-like quality. Has a flowery, vegetal edge and a slight note of chamomile which gives it a touch of bitterness. The label is correct in its suggestion of a dry, wine-like finish.

Medium pale orange amber with medium carbonation. Herbal and toffee aroma. Starts sharp, slightly metallic. Strong malt flavor at the end. Smooth, but not silky smooth.

Poured a clear, grapefruit like color with a thin, whispy white head. Interesting and unique floral aroma a little like incense. Initial flavor is malty, sweet but also a tad soapy. Finish was watery and sweet with floral notes and honey. Pleasant and refreshing for the most part.

Appearance: turbid amber color. Little but lasting head with ivory color and good adherence at glass. Aroma: exotic flower smells, slightly mentholated with tones of malts and yeast. Flavor: dominated for a flower taste that injects a light sweetness and dryness with some herbal touches. Some slight aniseed and chamomile notes. Palate: medium body, silky texture and light carbonation. In short, a exotic and own floral character but without great points.

Opaque light brown. thin head with large soda-sized bubbles. Apart from grain and yeast, it has a woodsy, floral aroma. Has an herbal flavor with a taste similar to dried garlic. An odd beer and not one that I would want to have frequently.

Burnt caramel color with a small white head that left quickly. The aroma is sweet and malty. The flavor is much the same but there is honey in here as well as caramel.
