Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

(bottle) Slightly hazy, pale golden colour with a blond and short foamy head. Discreet aroma of moderately sweet pale malt with a shy grainy touch, mildly floral and subtle lemon-fruity notes. Slightly sour flavour, light to medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Pale malty and slightly citrus-fruity, accompanied by shy floral and spicy accents; mildly acidic and sweet finish with a tinge of lime and spices. 29.XI.09

Bottle. Poured hazy grain yellow with a thin white head. Aroma had notes of malts and berries. Flavor was malty with a bit of tartness from the berries.

33cl bottle, part of a gift set of 4 "Historic Ales", all by the Williams Bros. brewery. Pours a slightly cloudy, pale straw yellow with a small white head. Limited retention, decent lacing. Aroma is much like regular lager: Citrusy hops, malt, yeast. No evidence of gooseberry. Active carbonation in a light-bodied pale ale, ok mouthfeel. A wee note of gooseberry in the taste. Well, maybe. Mostly though, it’s pretty basic lager style. Nice hoppy bitterness, a citrusy edge, a malty-ish middle and a dry, hoppy finish. As lagers go, this isn’t bad, but it’s far less interesting than the other 3 historic ales, which are truly unique. This is a standard blonde in a pretty bottle.

Bottle. Not as good as the other Williams Bros Heather ales. An unusual color. Yellow but not a golden yellow. Smells like beer. Not much of a berry smell. Taste, slightly tart berry taste with an unusal after taste. Recommended.

Bottle Poured cloudy yellow with thin white head. Aroma of wheat and fruit. Tart gooseberry flavour with a bit of yeasty wheatiness. Tart almost sour finish, but not vomitous sour like a sour ale. Finish lasted a long time.

It’s different. Kinda a little greeny yellowpiss like color but in a nice looking way. What are goosberry’d? I dunno, but as most ingredeances in it I dunno what they are,so i taste stuff and belive it’s goosberry’s for the most part. A light bodied 5% that is siped on for a long while as is all craft beer’s. Interesteing. If it’s the last thing in yer mouth for the whole day you spend the night not feeling the % much but a fruity sour(ish)taste last long on tonge and is interesting. Next to no headfoam)if any. Not something you’d drink offten but I will have it again, sice I picked up more gift packs and might get more. 2 of 4 down now. This one and the heather ale. Youtube video 2 come at some point. Having trouble getting my red barron viseo up. If anyone know’show I can try as many of this william brother’s ale’s as possable in Ontario CANADA plz hit me up.

11.2 oz bottle. Pours a cloudy golden color with a small white quickly disappearing head. It has a pleasant fruit aroma. Tastes of cereal, herbs, flowers and something I can’t quiet place with a very nice berry aftertaste. This is a nice, interesting and refreshing beer.
