Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

11 oz bottle. Poured into a pint glass with a pale straw color and small white head. Nose is terrible, vinous, mixed fruits but aweful and hainous display. Intial taste of wheat, splash of red berries, I guess in this case gooseberries. Stale earthy tones. Flavor and palate are extremely shortlived. Very light body. $2.95 a bottle was a true shame.

50 cL bottle. Pours almost clear to pale yellow with a lacing white head. Light lemonish aroma and mild herbal. Herbal and light spice flavour with a minor lemon twist. Ends with a smooth yeasty note and more lime-ish citric flavour.

Smells faintly of some kind of fruit or flower. I have no idea what a gooseberry is or tastes like but this beer does not entice me to find out.

Had my nose in the beer before I could detect a slight fruit aroma,I assume that was Gooseberry, nothing else escaping, carbonation very low so aromatics not coming out, taste was light grainey malt, with a touch of wheat zing, and a hint of berry sweetness that flattens out in finish. No problems, just uneventful
