Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

Clear dark gold, with a thin white head. Aroma is lightly malty, with the berry showing a bit, and the wheat. Taste is light berry, wheat, light maltiness. Not bad, pretty much what you’d expect per the label.

Bottle: Poured light gold color with almost no head to it. Medium carbonation with a light fruity smell. Light fruity taste with little to no aftertaste.

Not sure why nobody on this site seems to favor this one too highly -- it’s one of my favorite warm-weather brews. Easy drinking, with a bit of a flowery nose and a sweet start to the tongue before opening up to something more complex. It’s fun to take the tastebuds on a history tour, as well.

Pours a standard orangy amber with a heterogeneous white head. The nose is a bit dusty. Deeper, a bit grainy, with some chocolatey aspects. On the tongue this is a bit of the fuller smoother side, perhaps attributable to the wheat. The flavor is very dusty! The fruit comes out a bit more, but the chocolate is hardly to be seen. Rather mediocre. The biggest flaw is the dusty flavor that I’ve gotten from all their beers so far. Tastes a lot like heath, I guess that’s the bogmyrtle.

Bottle. Pours hazy gold with a greenish orangish hue, white head. Aroma is fruit, sugar, malt, floral. It sort of smells like boiling wort; a bit raw and not blended. Flavor is the same and quite grain oriented. I can’t say that I care for this beer, or the brewery, but at least the concoctions they come up with are somewhat unique.

Bottle. Medium-gold. Berryfruit-first aroma, plus distant malt and lemon. The gooseberry adds a subtle, acidic nuance. Not much umph in the flavour but nonetheless enjoyable, with some fruitiness and a steely finish. Quite refreshing – would make a nice summer sipper.
