Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

Aroma: jelly crystals with light malt. Appearance: just lightly hazy with a tiny head orange/amber. Flavour: sweet fruity and lightly malty. Palate: medium mouthfeel, lightly carbonated with some bitterness in the aftertaste.

500 ml bottle, at Blackfriars, Glasgow, as "Grozet Lagered Celtic Ale". ABV is 5.0%. Brewed with crushed gooseberries. Golden colour, slightly hazy. Moderate head. Nice aroma of hops and gooseberries. Lagerish flavour (drank it too cold though), with moderate but decent hops and notes of gooseberries.

Bottled. Murky brown ale smells of berries. A bit too thin and sharp, the gooseberries do not marry too well with the wheat and barley. The berry juice shines through like a cordial. Interesting, but not quite there.

I was totally not a fan of this at all. When it was cold, it was very acidic and...well...unappealing. I let it sit out for a while and with warmth, it did get better. However, I think it was the gooseberry that really didn’t make me happy.

Bottle. Nose of pine, mint, sage and fresh cut grass. Wow! These Heather Ales have beautiful noses. They’re all quite fragrant. Pours bright gold with a bright white head. Lots of grass and wheat on the palate. Some cereal grainyness as well. Medium bodied. Finishes with a burst of fresh and dry hops.

Pleasant hop aroma, highly aromatic like flowers and apples. Straw colored. Served this one too cold so the head was too small. Hazy appearance. Pronounced sourness from the gooseberry. Uniquely herbal flavors like sage. Apple too. Overall an interesting beer although one I don’t come back to often. Summery. I rate Heather Ales generously because of their creativity and the refreshing uniqueness of their beers.

330ml Bottle pours out clear gold topped with a white head. Aroma of a little sour berry and weat. A nice mouth full so so.

Poured a clear light orange color with a white head. Aroma was a mix of grass notes, wheat and some berry notes. Flavor seemed to be of mild wheat notes and very light on the fruit. It seemed to be too carbonated at times. rather lackluster.
