Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

Cask (Fort William): Fruity nose (berries, cinnamon), deep golden, little lacing layer; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium-bodied; berries, again, in the finish. O.K., not overwhelming.........

Columbus Tasting 8 - So the Raspberry Dribeer didn’t kill us let’s try another gem - Umm not a good idea... - Poured pale golden with a short white head. Aromas of straw, some kind of unidentifiable berry, and wheat. Whatever the berrys are are tart as can be in the flavor and don’t balance well with the yeasty wheat flavor behind it. Light and watery on the palate. Not so good..

C-Bus 8 - Bottle forced upon us by nolankowal: Pours a cloudy pale yellow with a white head. Aroma, ehh wheat, and some stuff I didn’t care for. Flavor, pale malts, then my notes get angry, ugh, icky, and poo. Really wasn’t that bad, but it wasn’t my thing.

Perfumy, lavender nose. Gold color, lathery head. Thin body, herbal notes, some lavender. Soapy tastes overall.

Clear light copper with a thin white head. Smells like peaches, oranges and pine trees. It’s light with fine carbonation on the palate. It tastes mildly of what I guess are tart gooseberries and a little peach. The finish is slightly hoppy. The fruit is almost not there, which makes for something you can drink a lot of, but not really love.

[364-20070625] 330mL. Light wheat aroma has hints of bad plastic and light berries. Clear, light orange body with some tiny bubbles and a medium-lasting foamy white head. Light wheat flavour is fairly bland. Medium body. OK but smells funny, probably better if chilled longer.
