Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

This was the least enjoyable of the Historic Ales of Scotland gift pack. Not much in the way of flavor or aroma. There was a slight fruit tartness in the background..gooseberry?

Pour is a hazy yellow with almost no head. Aroma is simple, some wheat and very little berry. Flavor is more berry than wheat but this is still just an average fruit beer as nothing really stands out. Kinda plain and boring. What is bog myrtle?

Very tasty and smooth with good balance of fruit between the wheat malt and the berries. I could drink a whole tankard of this, and I don’t even know what a ’tankard’ is. Big’Orra!

Bottle. Fruity with light malt slightly floral aromas. Gooseberries mostly noticeable in th almost citrussy tang. Fairly sweet. Pleasant enough but slightly sweet to be very drinkable.

Well made fruit beer that has a unusual, but enjoyable berry flavor. The gooseberries give a sweet fruitiness up front but end with a bitter and lightly tart finish. Very herbal with a light dry wheat flavor that melds well with the fruity tea flavors from the gooseberries.

This looks pretty much like a wheat beer but some fruity aroma is evident. Flavor is definitely unique. Only a bit of wheat flavor makes it through but that and the berry flavors combine to make a very different taste. It is very drinkable and smooth. I like it.

rerated on 4/4/8 - Cloudy amber with slight wheat color, aroma was fairly plain with only a hint of a wheat field aroma. aroma of Sprite and tastes almost like a flat sprite mixed with a budweiser - it’s not as bad as I make it sound but I don’t really enjoy it that much
