Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

Bottle. Cloudy amber beer with a good head. The aroma is quite thick sweet fruits, and the flavour is a bit like dandelion and burdock with a minimal dry finish. Overall a nice beer.

Poured a clear pale yellow gold with some bubbles around the edges, sweet fruit and honey fragrances, faint malt aroma, has sweet white wine and syrup aromas, white grape juice flavor, light on the palate, almost watery like, finishes very dry and clean in the mouth, has a wine texture, faint taste of malt, and some sweetness, has a sparkling drink touch to it, light fruit flavor, it is refreshing and easy drinking, it came across as a watered down semi-sweet white wine, there is a touch of alcohol in the sip as the beer warms.

Looks like a cider, yellow alone. no sharpness in aroma however, a touch of wheat, adn the myrtle like a tea. No real visible head. Malted and wheat so no edge, indescribeable tea taste with a faint apple. Not too drinkable but worth the experience to see what people can brew.

Pours grey/green/orange with a bubbly, light head. Aroma is somewhat sour with a light wheat quality. Almost akin to orange juice. Bubbly mouth feel, somewhat thin. Sourish with a wheat backing. Very interesting beer!

Bottle. Pours a cloudy gold with a film of a head. Nose is very beery. This beer has a very light fruit flavor but other than that this one had nothing going on. Even as it warmed, the flavors were nothing to write home about, or anywhere else for that matter.

Pours a slightly hazy gold with a light malt & corn aroma, with a creamy but brief head and some lace. Tastes of creamed corn, lightly malted and lightly hopped. Brief lukewarming aftertaste of corn and grain. Creamy body, slightly thin and low in carbonation. Not a terrible beer, but nothing to write home about. Tastes remarkably similar to Fraoch and other Williams Bros. beers.

Best by 08-07. Slightly hazy, golden orange with whitish head that lasts. Aroma is mildly corn lagerish, with a whiff of something burnt and stinky. Taste is sweet corn-lager yeast combo, with some malt evident. Dryish, with some tart fruit aftertaste; otherwise probably wouldn’t know any fruit was there, unless it told you so on the bottle. Palate is nice, light and creamy. I wanted to like this one as I’m glad they’re keeping some of the traditional non-hop beer additives in use, but it is really just an average brew.
