Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

This is one of my top 5 favorite beer! I wish it were available in larger quantities here in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It’s only available in a "gift pack".

(Rating #846)

(33cl bottle, best by 8/07) Small white head atop lightly hazed apple juice body. Aroma is moderately sweet, goose(?)berry, honey, some wheat. Taste is medium sweet, gooseberry, light syrup, wheat. Watery light-medium body, low carbonation.

Well, this single bottle (11.2 oz, I feel ripped) was 2.45, let’s see if it’s worth it. Pours a very lean watery amber, completely lacking the haze I would expect from anything with wheat. The head was thin and white, frothy too. Strange aroma, not appealing. Sour gooseberry smell. I guess that’s what that is, I’ve never smelled one before. Now on to taste. Well....I’d rather not have done that. Gooseberry (?) is about all I taste (thats bad). The gooseberry is lacking at that. The palate is just blah and the finish is sort of spicy. Overall, I would suggest taking two dollars and getting a couple of king size reese’s and having a wonderful two minutes eating them.

The color was a watery, foggy, golden color. The head was thin, white, and fizzy. The aroma was very lacking. The were fruit hints and light wheat. It wasn’t as pungent as I expected. The flavor was sweet/sour, light goosberry taste. It was very weak. It went away very quickly. The palate was thin, watery, not very good. The finish was a slight warmth in the throat but not long lasting.

Clear golden colour with a white head. malty, sweet and fruity aroma. Malty, sweet flavor with a light fruityness and a hoppy finish.

Another beer from the Historic Ales of Scotland set. Pours golden with a minimal head some lacing. Aroma was sweet and malty, almost like a macro without the harsh metallic hint associated with most macros. Faint malt flavour finishing with a dominatng sweetness in the end. Can’t really put my finger on it but I’ve tasted something like this before. Not bad, not great either.

Bottled. Golden, unclear ale, topped off by an off-white head. Fruity and honey-ish aroma with some berries. The flavor has a tad sourness, else it is malty and honey-ish, with some bitterness and herbal notes, as well as some sweetness. Medium body. Definately not bad, just a bit odd. Not unexpected from Heather Ales though. (061228)
