Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

Bottle: I guess I was trying to crash the site or something and my rating was deleted. I don’t have all of the adjectives I used, but I do remember being suprised it wasn’t a fruit beer because the gooseberries was quite prevelant on the nose and mouth. Quite a good beer with a dryish palate.

Bottled (Thanks tbone_!). Golden colour, small white head. Strong salad and berries in aroma, along with some hints of hops. Flavour is dry gooseberryish. with hints of hops and some wheat. Very crispy and refreshing beer. Surely quite "alternative" to much I’ve had before. Rating #1700.

[Bottle] Hazy pale brown colour. Not much head. Herbal cough drop aroma. Thin and watery. Flavour is very much similar to the aroma.

Bottled. Pours a hazy gold with a lacy white head. The gooseberries come through in the nose, along with some flowery hops. Medium body and carbonation. The gooseberries show up again in the taste, along with some straw, bread, and hint of what seems to be bacon. Lemon-infused tart finish. I haven’t had gooseberries since I was a kid, this is definitely the most interesting way so far to taste them.

Pours with the typical wheat beer color. Slight flowery aroma. There is a hint of Rosemary in the flavor, with a bit of spruce underlayment in the aftertaste.

Bottled: Cloudy orange gold without any head whatsoever. Aroma is strongly fruity, of gooseberries I guess. Moderately sour but the taste is fairly weak and watery. I can’t help feeling this is more like a soda than a beer.

Slightly opaque orange brown with a hard earned and fast fading head that left a bit of lacing. Smells of matches and of dark grape juice. All this and some jam and toffee on tasting that makes it a bit like a melted boiled lolly. Some tangy tart flavour, which gives it a bit of a remote mouthfeel. The alcohol seems too obvious given it’s only 5%. Fairly light bodied, a little bland on flavour, but still an interesting beer - thanks to highlandlad for sharing.

11.2 oz bottle into an English Pint. Pours a very light and thin see-through golden hue. Very thing whitish head sits on top but for not too long. The remainder of the head hugs the glass. Aroma brings a heavy berry and wheaty scent to the nose. Flavor has a heavy hint of wheat, then passes into a (what I guess would be) gooseberry touch, and also has a good hop note intertwined in with the two main flavors. Quite crisp. Nothing hangs around the palate too long. Very light and very easy to drink. I like the berryish taste, but it’s definitely nothing to "WOW" over.
