Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

Poured a hazy amber thin white head. Pretty weak and thin tasting, nothing really jumps out. The fruits not there just a weak slightly sourness and thats about it.

Bottled. Cloudy golden / orange with no head. Aroma is gooseberry (suprisingly!) and very flowery. As would be expected from the fruit, this is sharp and not sweet, yet not bitter either. Good on the palate - alive without being fizzy. Pleasent and good for a larger.

Pours a honey blonde colour with a caramel and honey aroma. Flowery, sweet, vaguely cidery flavour. Something extra too, guess that’s gooseberry. No hops to speak of.

11.2oz bottle, best before end of April 2007. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a small off-white head. Aroma of sour fruits, yeast and some wheat. Taste is tart up front with some wheat and a little bitterness. Dry finish. I haven’t had gooseberries since I was 10, so I can’t say I can pick them out in this beer--maybe that’s where the tartness is coming from. Watery and fizzy mouthfeel. Not bad, not great, won’t be getting again.

Figgy and smokey aroma. Malty, clear color. Losts its head very quickly. Malty flavor, and slightly fruity. Not a lot of carbonation. I would not buy this again. Not a huge wheat flavor.
