Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

Une autre bière assé spéciale, un goût de fruit inconnu et de blè rafréchissant. Je l’ai trouver dans un embalage cadeau avec Alba, Ebulum et Fraoch. Procuré en Ontario.

Bottle. Hazy golden colour with a sparse white head. Sourish fruity and grainy aroma. Tastes of gooseberries and wheat, with some background caramel and hops. It has a clean, but thin and watery mouthfeel, which lets it down somewhat. OK.

Some slight berry, honey and cereal aromas from this beer. It is a cloudy banana yellow with a large bead head that diminishes and leaves substantial lacing. Sharp, citric, sour berry flavor grows on the palate. Clean, light finish and a whole profile of wheat, berry, and cereal malt on the tongue. An interesting alternative to other fruit beers.

The gooseberry is apparently an odd tasting berry because that is how I would describe this beer - odd tasting. There are hints of fruit and wheat flavors but the main flavor is that of the gooseberry (and I can’t say that I’m too fond of this particular berry). Oh well, on to the next one.

Bottled:
Grainy aroma, notes of sourly fruits. Öight hazy, yellow to golden color. Flavor has is light sweet, some fruit, berry and herb notes, but not intensive. Dry finish. I expected more, after reading the ingredients. Sometimes quite tasty, but all in all a bit light bodied and watery.

Pours a mellow golden yellow color. Aromas of bread/fruit/herbs. I’m getting some berry flavor with a hint of smoke and something grainy. I expected more flavor after having the Elderberry brew.

The color is golden with a huge head, the flavor is slightly sweet but very hard to describe (gooseberries?). Overall it was a very tasty ale and would for sure try again.
