Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

Bottled and best by end of August 2004. Great. Cloudy golden body with almost no head. Aroma is fruity and probably gooseberry. Definitely spices there as well. Somewhat acidic but still very easy to drink. Not big or impressive by any means, but certainly interesting.

Bottled. Clear yellow coloured with a white head. Sweet fruity aroma with notes of malts. Fruity flavour of malts, caramel and hops. Hoppy finish.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange with a spare off-white head. Aroma of sweet malt and fruit. Flavour of light hops, fruit, sweet malt, wine and spices. Body’s a little thin. A little dissapointing, this is just O.K.

Nothing special here kids. Pured a light golden color with mild head. Standard crisp wheaty beer with a hint of berries.

I was by then very happy, and did not taste like a lot of fruits, but certainly it has some sweet in there. Great one.

It is what it is, a p[retty interesting brew. First sip is kinda odd, but it grows on you. Poured a cloudy brown yellow with some tan head. Smells were wheat and spice and fruit. Taste was interesting, a mix of mal, spice, and some fruit flavor. Has a nice spritzyness to it.

The aroma is barely noticible but there are hints of fruit. The color is a cloudy reddish oarnge.Hardly any head is present and no lacing. There is a sweetness with a spicy peppery finish.

Bottle. Pours a dull, lifeless, and cloudy orange. No head, little lace. Aroma is sweet, but barely detectable unless the drinker really honks in some air. Flavor has a trace of citrus sweetness, but other than that there’s not much. Palate is watery and listless. Not offensive, but not impressive. I’ll try another and make my final verdict.
