Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

Aroma of berries and ginger. Slightly hazy, orange-golden coloured with a thin, white head. Taste is sweet, fruity and spicy. More gingers and berries. Bit too sweet could use some more bitterness. Dry beer.

11.2 oz. bottle. Best before end: 02/06. Pours a hazy straw with virtually no head. Aroma is of sweet malts and some fruity wheatiness. Sweet malts are at the forefront in the taste, but there is a nice balance with the wheat in the finish. A hint of berries at the end. Thin and a little watery. Some stale qualities to this one.

Poured a hazy whitish gold color with a small amount of fizzy white head. Aroma is sweet, piney, and slightly sweet fruit. Flavor is pretty flat, sugared fruit, and sweet wheat. overall, just so so.

Hazy, as the label said it would be, no head to speak of, and very little on the nose as well. It is, however, clean, fresh and has a lovely refreshing acidity, the finish is better than average. Nice, but I would agree it’s not the best from this brewery. Haven’t been in Tibbie Shiels Inn for years (see commercial description) would be interesting to see if they served this..the inn is half way between Moffat and Selkirk, and was certainly worth a visit then as beer and food were both excellent.

Bottle (330ml) Poured a cloudy yellow-orange, with virtually no head. Aroma is light, faintly malt-sweet with orange juice and other citrus notes. Taste is slightly malt-sweet but also berry-fruit tart, with citrus and wheaty grain notes - some sour wine intrudes on warming. Mouthfeel is very flat. Finishes a little stale and bitter - quite a thin, disappointing brew, sour yet sickly sweet and thin in the end.

Bottled. A pale, hazy paechy coloured beer with a little white head. The aroma is sweet and fruity with a bit of lime cordial thrown in. The taste is over sweet although it is aththis stage that the gooseberry kicks in. It is fairly light and a bit fluffy. Drinkable but a bit wishy washy.

Gold. White head. Light, floral, fruity malt nose. Same flavor, berry undertones. Almost a macro character to it. Fruity aftertaste. Easy drinking, nothing impressive.
