Commercial Description:
Bottled. A cask version at 4.5% is available in August and September.
Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

Hazy tan. Nose and flavor lightly fruity, berries have a bit of bitterness to them, sour in an unusual way at the end. Finishes very dry. Not completely sucky or anything, just not that interesting.

Hazy blond with a small white head. Aroma is of light fruit to me. Very slightly sour aftertaste. Not my favorite, but a nice change of pace.

Agree with those below who complain about not enough hops. The gooseberry is noticable and not over-bearing but sadly there is not much else going on and it is too watery. Appearance is poor as well, the head dissappears very quickly leaving something that looks roughly like Tizer. Nonetheless it is certainly an interesting drink for a change and not at all unpleasant.

Pours a golden orange with a thin disappearing head with lots of floaties. Smells of crisp wheat malt and spicy. Lightly sour with hints of orange rind. Tastes of wheat malt. Is quite dry and crisp. Finish is sour and lightly piney/floral. I am guessing the odd taste at the end is the gooseberry. Not a bad flavor really but where is the rest of this beer. mouth is a bit thin with a bitter aftertaste. Interesting, but leaves me cold.

Hazy orange amber tint with a good head. Fascinating aroma of malt and a combination of gooseberries, bogmyrtle and meadowsweet (yeah, I pilfered the exact combination from the Commercial Description). Flavor is also quite remarkable, with a very piquant mix that also seems like it could contain rosemary. I’ve rated this brewery 4.0 and above for three previous beers, but this one falls a tad short in that the hops don’t seem to be present anywhere. This is important because with this kind of fruit beer a subtle yet powerful hop presence serves to remove the medicinal element from the beer. In this case though, there are some elements of ReaLemon (plastic bottles) and Luden’s Cough Drops that could be relieved by adding more hops to make it more "beer-like". In the end though, the actual fruity/floral elements win out enough to make Grozet a pleasant drink.

Bottle. Pours a light orange color with a white head. Nose is very light fruitiness, fairly undetectable. Mostly water with a nice full aftertaste that almost makes it worth while...but really doesnt

Bottle: Poured a light hazy brown color ale with a nice beige foamy head with pretty good retention. Aroma of gooseberries is easily detectable along with some malt and weird spices. Sweetness is overwhelming and well balance with the malt. Nice refreshing drink with some originality.

A hazy orange beer with a nice creamy off-white head. The aroma is very spicy and sharp - I can’t really pick out the individual parts - but I pick up honey and grapefruit. The flavor is weird - a lot of wheat and a lot of spices - though I can’t pick them out - not even the gooseberries. The mouthfeel is very smooth and the end dry and a bit watery.
