Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

Bottle Pours a very light hazy orange/amber with a faint short lived fizzy head. Only a thin line of lacing. Aroma is of pale grains, wheat, like a heffy but a little sweeter and a slight fruity note of pears and peaches. Flavor is quite tart. Apples and pears mostly, quite dry and sour. Lively carbonation. I hope for a litle more fruit flavor in a fruit beer. This tastes more line a bitter hef.

Pouring amber with only a trace of a fizzy head, this smells more like ginger to me than any berry... although I must admit, there aren’t many gooseberries hanging around the Chicago area. The drink is both watery and very spritzy at once, the gooseberries saying hello (at last) as you swallow. At the same time, the ale scratches the back of the throat on the way down. Interesting beverage... but WHY ISN’T THIS A TRADITIONAL ALE RATHER THAN A FRUIT BEER??? It comes from OLD recipes just as do the other interesting brews from the Williams brothers.

Orange-yellow with a reddish tinit. No head. Smells sweet, fruity, and kinda plain. Flavor is slightly skunky and has a weird slightly fruited flavor, but not really a fruit you’d want in your mouth. Odd, not great.

Pale yellow with very slight white head. The aroma is complicated. Tart with grape, honey and lemon notes. Slightly acidic at first, but quickly mellowing with a long lightly sweet finish. Thin and quenching, this is a unique brew with a pleasant, and not overpoweriung fruit aspect. Drink with a salad or other light meal. Would not stand up to harsh flavors.

in the 11.2 oz bottle. Pours a cloudy pale yellow. Has a white poofy head of substance. this head lingers until the beer is done. Fruity aroma. smells like honey. Does indeed taste like gooseberries, but it is not an overpowering gooseberry flavor. It has only a mild sweetness and mild tartness, reminiscent of the fruit. Very drinkable and delightful.

Bottle. Pours a very pale yellow like an ordinary pale lager, but hazy. The nose is mainly gooseberries with a touch of malt. The taste is rather simple, but very refreshing with a strong initial taste of berries, but little to offer in the aftertaste. Not bad.

Hazy pale gold body topped with a thick and lasting white foamy head. Nice malty/hoppy aroma with gooseberries and herbal notes. Well-balanced and very refreshing taste. Unfortunately, it lacks some strenght and only leaves a timid bitter/bready aftertaste. Enjoyable average summer fruitbeer. Thank you PrimeMinister!
