Palate is herbal with good tone of gooseberries. The taste I could not compare to any of my previous beers. A legend. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 2, 2004 I liked this one. Poured turbid gold with a medium white head and good lacing. Aroma of malt, gooseberries, hops, and fruit. Tastes fruity, with hints of hops, malt, gooseberries. Finishes crisp, smooth, with a berry sweetness. Good complexity, and a very worthy beer. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 22, 2004 Bottled. Pale, golden with moderate white head. Slight haze. Nose is lsightly fruity, and sweet. Nice full flavor. Tartness at the beginning and nice grassy finish. There does seem to be a fruity sweetness in the middle, although I do not know what a gooseberry is or what it tastes like. Flavor also has bits of spiciness. This is a good beer. I really like it. humulus (338), Salem, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 12, 2004 I am shocked this little number isn’t rated higher. It is such a clean, crisp and creative force. I noticed that most raters don't even know what a gooseberry is. This no doubt effects their rate. Oh well. I find this to be a wonderful brew with gooseberry goodness that adds a nice tart aspect to the flavor and that accompanies a sorgham sweet maltyness. There are also nice wheat fed yeasty esters. The appearance is yellow-brown and cloudy and very reminiscent of gooseberry juice. The arma is spicy and smooth and contains many of the flavors mentioned but in aroma form. Added points for creativity and craft. I’ve been goosed. PorterPounder (3148), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 1, 2004 Hazy, light golden appearance, persistent light white head. Grassy, spicy aroma, fresh. Spicy flavor, has some wheat beer qualities in both mouthfeel and flavor, note coriander and a little bit of butterness in the back end. Crisp finish - refreshing. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 1, 2004 Dark straw body with a white film. Aroma is filled with all kinds of berries, I’d have had trouble identifying gooseberries, but would have said a mix of blueberries and cherries or something along those lines. It’s slightly grainy as well with grassy and wheaty notes. Palate is mildly tart, refreshing, lagerish, fruity and with a crisp bite, but too watery at times. It’s certainly original, but is not particularly interesting to study. Thanks Josh!
