Commercial Description:
Bottled. A cask version at 4.5% is available in August and September.
Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

Bought from utobeer in the borough market. This is a challenging beer for me....i can’t stand gooseberries! I was pleasantly surprised by this though, it’s a wheat beer but with a tart hoppiness that makes it very refreshing, gooseberries weren’t overpowering and blended really well with the hops and i guess bog myrtle....what ever the hell that is?

Bottle out of Xmas giftpack. Heady fruit aroma with gooseberry, orange, pine, beeswax. Bit unfiltered quality pils, bit murky tripel of about 9%.Clear or amber, wheat slickness,Conditioning headless soon as it hits the glass. Nice earthy tang, honey, soap, digestives. Hints of peat, honey and lemon. Feels like a filtered to death tripel shandy thats held on to some earthy fruit notes. OK, just a bit flimsy

I really don’t know what a gooseberry is either. I guess its alright, in a tourist shop kind of way. Nothing you’d find if you actually went to scotland, that’s for sure. But, yeah, its just ok.

Clear golden of color with a white head. A fresh aroma of gooseberries, weak sweets and fresh berries. A flavor of berries, weak sweets and dry.

Bottle. Pours a copper body with 1 finger white head. Grainy wheat nose with light floral hop body and some dry earthiness. A thin metallic flavor and a light berry in the backbone of the body but its drown out by the wheaty graininess of the beer.

I tried this beer after purchasing a 4-pack of "Historic Scottish Ales" from one of my local LCBO outlets. The beer pours a transparent light gold colour with almost no head. The aroma is extremely fruity with the gooseberries dominating the aroma. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour is earthy, sour malts, and some hoippy bitterness in the finish.

Bottle: Bought a sample pack of the Heather Ales, the Grozet is flowery, sweet and light. Interesting.
