Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

Very nice fruity nose, nice appearance but with no head. Flavor was disappointingly bland.

bottle from Bierzwerg. Slightly hazy pale golden colour with a mid-sized head. Fruity-malty nose. Medium-bodied, pleasantly malty background with hints of berries and fruit (rather shy). If I didn’t know it was gooseberry, I wouldn’t have guessed. Nevertheless a nice beer.

12 oz bottle. Pours light golden with a small white head. Aroma of ginger, berries, other light fruits, spices, some sweet malts. Flavor is quite odd (Ah you heather ales!) so this is gooseberry eh? Honey, ginger, earthy roots, grapes, very fruity and meadlike. Finishes soft and a bit bland. Medium body and a soft carbonation. Very strange sweet and not very beery. Kinda refreshing though.

330ml bottle. Bright and clear with a tidy compacy white head. Dull amber colour with a fruity hop aroma with a salty backdrop. You can taste the gooseberry mixed wityh malt. Not bad.

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden color with a thin white head. It quickly settles into a thin white film. Smell: Lightly sweet and floral. I also pick up white grapes and apples. Taste: Light berry flavors with a bit of wheat. Kind of like a wine. ALso a bit of pear and a light floral feel. Mouthfeel/drinkability: Very lightly carbonated and light bodied.

(bottle) Slightly hazy, pale golden colour with a blond and short foamy head. Discreet aroma of moderately sweet pale malt with a shy grainy touch, mildly floral and subtle lemon-fruity notes. Slightly sour flavour, light to medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Pale malty and slightly citrus-fruity, accompanied by shy floral and spicy accents; mildly acidic and sweet finish with a tinge of lime and spices. 29.XI.09
