"Seaweed Ale"
Prior to the 1850's there were many Scottish coastal alehouses which brewed their own ales, these ales were made from local malted barley which was grown on fields fertilised with seaweed. This environment gave the barley a very specific flavour which we have recreated by the inclusion of fresh seaweed in the mash tun. In addition to the seaweed (bladder rack) harvested on the Argyll coast we have used only organically grown malt - the darker malts roasted by ourselves.
Kelpie is a rich chocolate ale which has an aroma of fresh seabreeze and a distinctive malty texture.
Drink lightly chilled in a wine glass.

Beer with dark edges. More of a stout or a porter. Same tasing profiles as a stout. Smells salty and kind of fruity. Tastes like coffee and chichorie(a bit), sweetish and sourrish. Watery refreshing texture. Bit bitter and salty finish, some roasted malt too. Nice and refreshing.

pours dark brown, with small head. Malty/malasses aroma. Moderate sweet flavor with some unknown flavors underneath. Not much of a finish

Poured a dark brown with mahoganey edges and a simple head that didn’t do much on the lacing end of things. Aroma was strong chocolate and sweet. Flavor was sweet chocolate like a sweet stout initially (chocolate most predominantly), followed by a smokiness, and finishing with a slight bitter ending. Actually an interesting progression of flavors, but it didn’t seem complex at the same time. Seaweed, where? Mouthfeel was nice for a stout, but not impressive. This one came off as a blended Scottish Ale and Stout.

<!-- i -->Best before end March 2007<!-- /i -->. Aroma of roasted and chocolate malts, and a little sour twang of cherries. A little bit of caramel in there too. Pours a deep brown with a small beige ring around the glass. Tastes of roasted malts and a little bit of sour again, finishes a little bitter due to the malts. Can’t really pick up any hops. Thin body,.A decent beer, the best of all I’ve tried from <!-- i -->Williams Brothers (Heather Ales).

Very interesting, the things they add are interesting. Gives a little of impression of spicy features.

Pour is dark brown almost black with a nice 1/4 inch tight bubbled tan head...smell is nice and roasty with cocoa...taste is nice and roasty as well with good cocoa flavors throughout...finish is nice and lingering...I am a little sad that I have been putting of opening this because I thought (by the name) that it was going to be gross, and it is actually delicious!!

Opaque black/brown color.Small tan head diminished quickly. Roasty and iron-like flavors in foreground. Nice bitterness from roast malt and hops. Slight sourness/acidity present as well. Medium-bodied. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel despite low carbonation. Interesting beer.

On the hand pump at Max’s. What a surprise! Nice dark brown pour. Malty brown ale and briny nose. Delicious thick mouthfeel- light chocolate and roasted malt. Very nice.
