"Seaweed Ale"
Prior to the 1850's there were many Scottish coastal alehouses which brewed their own ales, these ales were made from local malted barley which was grown on fields fertilised with seaweed. This environment gave the barley a very specific flavour which we have recreated by the inclusion of fresh seaweed in the mash tun. In addition to the seaweed (bladder rack) harvested on the Argyll coast we have used only organically grown malt - the darker malts roasted by ourselves.
Kelpie is a rich chocolate ale which has an aroma of fresh seabreeze and a distinctive malty texture.
Drink lightly chilled in a wine glass.

Bottle@Home, Feb 08, 3.6: Aroma of chocolate, black currant and hint a hint of seaweed. Very dark ruby color, light brown head, good lace. Sweet, chocolate, light bitter, hint of salt, licorice. Flat mouthfeel. Flavorful, nice. Bottle@6th DRG, Feb 06, 3.3: Strong slated licorice aroma. Opague color, light brown head, fair lace. Licorice, mocca, medium sweet, bit salty. It’s a bit watery and finishes as old thin coffee. But it has potential.

6th DRG. Salted licorice aroma. Malty sweet flavor with licorice and caramel. The salty bit must probably be the seeweed. Thinnish.

A medium sized light brown head when poured. Pure black body, heavy roasted malts and salt are evident, with some spices in the aroma. Slightly watery, but that’s due to the seaweed. A good description of the taste is chocolate cake with salt. Clean ending with a good amount of carbonation.

Aroma of roasted chocolate/coffee malts. Black coloured, with a lasting, thick, creamy brown head. Taste is sweet, bitter, roasted malty (chocolate/coffee). Some carbonation. A nice stout. Body could be better, it’s watery. I have no idea how seaweed tastes, so probably it’s there. :)

Very deep brown/black pour with small khaki head. The aroma is very malty and dark chocolatey, with some red winey hints. The taste is nutty and simultaneously merloty, with more roast malt and dark chocolate. Medium to dense palate. This one is very good, and exceeds my expectations. Now, go fetch me a nubile young mermaid, captain, or at least a Japanese tentacle hentai DVD!
