Nose is chocolatey, lightly roasty, almost nutty at times. Body is medium/light, slick mouthfeel. Chocolate flavors and roast in the flavor also, though i seem to pick up a bit of saltiness? Mind over matter maybe? Drinking a beer brewed with seaweed. Finish is medium sweet with a faint smokiness. Never thought i,d try this brew, been looking at it for years and just could,nt bring myself to give it a go. Thanks to Degarth for the trade and pushing me into trying it. Thanks man! Black body with small chocolate head. Flavor was the weak point of this beer. Medium roasted malt flavor but at times seemed somewhat watery. Smooth on the palate mild with a -roasty aftertaste. aracauna (2391), Georgia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 31, 2005 Dark, dark brown with a khaki head. The aroma is slightly choclatey malty. The same goes for the flavor with the milk chocolate maltiness being the main aspect. This beer is a fairly resectable porter. The seaweed isn’t really a major influence in the flavor or aroma. The thing that killed this beer was the finish which basically was of dirt. imdownthepub (5177), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 21, 2005 Bottle conditioned, fresh, 500ml. Very dark brown with short lasting head. Looking for a vaguely salty, briny brew with this beers selling point, then you will be disappointed, it turns out to be to be a dark chocolate malt ale, thick in body with an acidic tinge. There is a slight sweetness to the beer almost lactose in character.I wanted the seabreeze and didn’t get it, but a decent beer all the same. Scubatrip (388), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 18, 2005 Deep black with a brown foamy head from the bottle. Smells like chocolate malts, tastes like frozen dark chocolate. No seaweed, despite the name. Ok overall. Hunsell (400), Amsterdam, Netherlands
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Oct 7, 2005 Seaweed ale...are you mad? That was what I was thinking when a Scottish man put it on the table, intending to share the bottle with me.
Well OK. Dark coloured beer, unfortunately not much of a head. Smell: well that’s getting interesting. Undoubtedly dark malts, caramel, dark fruits? Dark fruits returned heavily in the sweet taste, especially raisins. Remarkably complex for such a light beer. But than it ends very quickly....such a pity...a beer with plusses and minusses. The plusses win..oh, where was the seaweed?
