Commercial Description:
Bottled. A cask version is available from May to July.
"Seaweed Ale"
Prior to the 1850's there were many Scottish coastal alehouses which brewed their own ales, these ales were made from local malted barley which was grown on fields fertilised with seaweed. This environment gave the barley a very specific flavour which we have recreated by the inclusion of fresh seaweed in the mash tun. In addition to the seaweed (bladder rack) harvested on the Argyll coast we have used only organically grown malt - the darker malts roasted by ourselves.
Kelpie is a rich chocolate ale which has an aroma of fresh seabreeze and a distinctive malty texture.
Drink lightly chilled in a wine glass.

Bottle. [Courtesy of yespr, thanks buddy] Average beige creamy head that mostly lasted. Spare lacework. Dark mahogany colour. Aroma of caramel, grain, nutty, bread, smoke, fruit. Medium bodied with a soft carbonation and light dry texture. Moderated sweet and bitter flavour. Lingering smoky and nutty finish.

Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has a salty, nori-esque tinge to it, but nothing special. I found it to be fairly weak. The flavor is pretty much non-existent, though I did note some chocolate in there on the finish, which doesn’t last long. I would recommend drinking this one at room temperature, as the flavor started to come out some more as it warmed up. The mouthfeel is nice, though... very creamy and full. Not nearly as interesting a beer as I was hoping. There’s subtle, and then there’s invisible. This one falls under the latter category.

Very deep dark ale with a nice head. The fist whiff smelled of roasted malts and chocolate, very chocolately aroma. Second whiff was more sweet, peppary with a little bit of fruit involved as well. Upon tasting it, I was very surprised. I could tell no seaweed, though I thought it was a little smokey and salty giving it a nice complexity. Of course, the roasted malts also showed themselves nicely beside the chocolate. Actually, a rather nice brew...anything but disappointing.

A deep dark brown ae, like a stout, with a thin moka head. Aroma of sweet chocolate, molasses, and light vanila. A nice sweet malt cereal taste, with roasted nuts, coffee. Medium bodied. LCBO gift set 2006. BB March 2007.

Bottle. Poured Reddish brown. Flavor was roasted malt and licorice that fades to an almost coffee like flavor.

Dark brown colour, small off-white head. Aroma has prominently toasted malts, and some chocolate. Flavour has caramel malts and some spices. Light bodied, finishes watery.
